Scripture:Mark14：43-52 Sermon title："Deserted Jesus"
It was when Jesus
finished praying with his disciples at the Gethsemane.
Judas who betrayed Jesus led the people who came to arrest Jesus.
Judah had arranged a signal with them to capture Jesus.
That signal was “The one I kiss is the man;” Judas approached Jesus and kissed saying “Rabbi!”.
The kiss is to be used for a greeting. As a matter of fact, Judas made a greeting kiss as a tool to betray people.
When Judas kisses Jesus, those who came
to arrest Jesus captured him at once.
After that there was a quarrel between the disciples and those who came to arrest him, however, the disciples left Jesus ran away at a stroke.
Then everyone deserted him and fled. (verse 50)
“Even if all fall away, I will not.” “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” all the others said the same.
What was that word? Where did the words such as saying go?
The word of Jesus
in Every day I was with you, teaching
in the temple courts, and you did not arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”(verse 49) sounds as if it is said that "God is looking at everything".
Jesus said, I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:18)
It is said that.
It is also written as While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5: 8).
Jesus never deserted his disciples who deserted himself and ran away.
The author of the
Gospel according to Mark wrote one episode here.
A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, he fled naked, leaving his garment behind. (verse 51,52)
The young man tried desperately to run away so as not to be seized.
At that time, a linen garment was taken off, he fled naked. It sounds rather funny.
Why is this episode
in the Bible?
This is my
imagination to the last, when the disciples met Jesus of the resurrection gathered, the incident of Gethsemane became a topic of everyone.
Among them, there was this young man and he talked about his experience funny.
It was a memory for both young man and everyone. That story was talked over.
And finally the author of the Gospel wrote this.
They thanked for Rabbi (teacher) not to desert them even though they deserted Rabbi and ran away.
People betray God in time and in some cases, God never desert people.
Let's keep this in our mind.
